In Tibetan Buddhist tradition, there are peaceful and wrathful deities. These can manifest themselves to us as practitioners to help wake us up. Such energies can be found within the Enneagram too, here to help us release the ego’s agenda if we work with them.
Description: From a Buddhist perspective, the Enneagram can be understood not only as a map of personality, but also as a map of awakening. Each point on the symbol reflects patterns that can either pull us deeper into reactivity and identification or become gateways into presence, awareness, and compassion.
In Tibetan Buddhism, peaceful and wrathful deities represent different expressions of awakened energy. The peaceful deities invite openness, gentleness and compassion, while the wrathful deities confront the ego more directly, interrupting the patterns that keep us asleep. Though their expressions differ, both serve the same purpose: helping to wake us up.
Tonight, we will explore the nine Enneagram points through this lens, looking at the peaceful and wrathful deities living at each point on the symbol and how they can be invoked as supporting energies for awakening.
